SWESO, recognizes that sustainable livelihoods are essential for building resilient
communities and reducing long-term dependence on humanitarian aid. Our Livelihood
Program is designed to empower individuals and households—especially youth,
women, and internally displaced persons (IDPs)—to generate income, improve their
economic well-being, and contribute to local development. Our approach focuses on
both immediate economic recovery and long-term economic growth, tailored to the
Somali context. Key components include:
Ÿ Skills Development & Vocational Training: Providing youth and women with marketrelevant technical and entrepreneurial skills to enhance employability and selfreliance.
Ÿ Business Start-Up Support: Supporting micro and small enterprises through
business training, startup grants, and mentorship.
Ÿ Cash-for-Work and Asset Recovery: Temporary employment opportunities linked to
community asset rehabilitation, helping families recover from shocks while improving
public infrastructure.
Ÿ Agricultural & Livestock Support: Training farmers and pastoralists in climate-smart
agriculture, animal husbandry, and access to inputs and markets.
Ÿ Market Linkages & Value Chain Development: Strengthening access to local and
regional markets to ensure sustainability and profitability for small producers.
Impact and Approach
Through our Livelihood Program, we aim to restore dignity, reduce aid dependency,
and promote inclusive economic growth in Somalia. All initiatives are community-driven
and designed with sustainability in mind, ensuring that skills, businesses, and local
economies continue to thrive beyond the duration of project funding.
